Mission SHAKTI aims to improve menstrual health and hygiene across India and world, by providing low cost recycled biodegradable sanitary pads to millions of women across the globe, also leading to a less carbon footprint and better environment. VISION: In 2022, as we will enter into 75th year of our independence, NEW INDIA will top the list of the countries with best menstrual health and hygiene with 100% penetration due to accessibility and affordability of low cost recycled biodegradable sanitary pads to millions of women across India, also helping us create better environment. PROBLEM: > Only 45% of India\\\\\\\’s menstruating women use sanitary napkins (SNs). > Over 50% of women resort to shocking alternatives like unsanitised cloth, ashes and husk sand. > Incidents of Reproductive Tract Infection (RTI) are 70% more common among these women. > Lack of hygiene can cause diseases like gastroenteritis, pneumonia, and hepatitis A as well as parasites like scabies infection, hookworm and giardiasis. > Although upper class females hope to have higher quality products, there are no INNOVATIVE products available, which are not only good quality but also affordable for rural population. TARGET AUDIENCE: > Currently there are 32 Cr women in the age group of 12-49. > With 45% penetration only 12 Cr women use sanitary pads. > 25 Cr women do not have an access and affordability of sanitary pads, while 15 cr women haven\\\\\\\’t started using sanitary pads yet. > In a decade, 7 Cr women (appx.) will enter Menopause, While 20 Cr more girls (appx.) will enter the age of menstruation, Overall TG would increase to around 42 Cr Appx. SOLUTION = INNOVATION > Low cost biodegradable sanitary pads made from bagasse along with natural absorbents like fuller\\\\\\\’s earth and Tragacanth gum powder in the core covered in cotton knitwear. WHAT IS REQUIRED? > 25 Cr women need 1500 Cr pads in a year @ an average of 5 pads per month / per women. VIABILITY ISSUE OF SMALL SCALE PRODUCTION: > 83,000 Small scale units that produce 500 pads day would be required to fill the gap, with an investment of 2000 Cr only on set-up (Plus manpower cost, pad cost and other variables). ECONOMIES OF SCALE WITH MISSION SHAKTI: > Under Mission SHAKTI there would be 75 Units across India each with a capacity of 600 pads per minute = 20 Cr pads per year. > Pads would be provided to Govt. @ 6 Rs for a pack of 5. > 80 Rs per woman / per year > Total investment to provide free pads to 25 cr women = 2000 Cr including set up, machinery, rentals etc. Etc. IMPACT: > Mission SHAKTI will be an “icing on the cake” when it comes to Women empowerment along with sukanya yojana, Beti bachao Beti padhao, ujwala yojana, AYUSHMAN BHARATetc. > 8,000 Jobs will be created in the entire process. > India would be world’s first country to have 100 % menstrual health and hygiene.
