Hyderabad: As part of National Volunteering Week and coinciding with Republic Day celebrations, Bhumi Hyderabad chapter organised a seed ball making event at Phoenix Arena, Hitech city.
Around 30 volunteers participated in the event and added their efforts to the Seed Ball programme that focuses on increasing the green cover. In three hours, the volunteers prepared more than 3,000 seed balls. The process involved making golf-sized mixture of soil, seeds and compost and then scatter them in suitable places for the trees to grow.
“We planned to distribute those seed balls after they are dried fully to the societies, organisations and individuals in the coming weekends,” says Rakesh, head, Bhumi Hyderabad chapter.
The seed ball making event will be held once in a month and distribution will also be taken up once in a week by the Bhumi Hyderabad Team. The team from Bhumi also plans to organise environmental awareness programmes like reuse of plastic, save water among others in the near future.
